The art of filming C-suite executives

Over the years, I've filmed dozens of C-Suite executives including CEO's of eBay, Square and many more. From my involvement, here are a few best applies I follow to guarantee success:

Client

Sometimes, the client who takes me into the project has never produced a video before or they are nervous about working with a new producer. I make it a practice to take the time to describe to my clients how the process works. Above all, I want them to feel relaxed and self-confident that everything will go easily. This puts them at ease and I find that an educated client makes for a great production partner.

Crew

We only work with brilliant, skilled professionals who bring value to our productions. We’re making important pieces and it’s imperative that each member of the crew knows their role and knows how to do it well. We always handle ourselves in a humble, professional manor. We dress suitably. I ask the client earlier what is proper dress code and I make sure the crew follows suit.

Proper Preparation

There is no better recipe for disaster than having to rush. I continuously make sure there is plenty of period to unload, set up, test, and tweak. It’s well to be ready earlier than having to scramble. There are frequently variables that come into play that you just have to deal with. Over the years, I've knowledgeable street construction with jackhammers, police actions with sirens, power outages, cleaning crews in the way, and so on. When something along these lines happens, you need time to figure out a plan B so I always allow plenty of time for setup.

Time

Corporate executives are too busy people. More often than not, they are ready to leave before they arrive. I like to know in advance how much time I have to work with them and I plan a strategy for getting done the script in the set timeframe. I like to repeat my subject that we have them scheduled for x amount of time and also then ask them how we're doing with the schedule. What you supposed was a thirty one-minute session may now really be a sixteen-minute window before they have to run out and deal with the next thing. I use this as an chance to measure how receptive they may be to way and multiple takes.

Multiple Takes

If I don't think the take was as good as it could be, I tell them, always in a reverent way. It’s my job to make the people I film look better. When I need additional take, I suggest that we can get a best one. I not ever push too hard. I ask them to watch the playback and if they are good with it, then so am I. Nine out of ten times they are profitable to want to retake. The more footage I get, the more editing option I have and the best the end product will be.

It’s regularly about the client and creating them look better. When they look better, I look better and nothing confirms success like knowledge, know-how, and the effort and stamina to see the project done to the end with as little stress as possible.

Do I really need video?

I get asked this question all the time and my answer is always the same, "Yes!" Today video has the most effective influence on people. Video marketing can increase conversion rates, it’s persuasive in the C-suite, and it's become what people expect.
